The Night Tommy Emmanuel Reignited My Fire for the Guitar

Last weekend, I had the privilege of seeing Tommy Emmanuel live — and man, what an experience. If you’ve ever witnessed him perform, you know exactly what I mean when I say his playing feels alive. Every note carries heart, humor, and humility all at once. Watching him on that stage reminded me why I fell in love with guitar in the first place — and why I’ll never stop chasing growth as a musician.

Tommy once said, “The greatest reward of playing music is the connection you make with people.”

That line hit me hard.

Because that’s exactly what I aim for every time I step on stage with Trevor Hunt & The Sleepers — to create moments of real connection, not just sound.

Since that night, I’ve been practicing with a new sense of purpose.
I’ve been polishing guitar runs, reworking solos, and experimenting with new tones that’ll show up in next year’s show setlist. I can’t wait to share them with you — we’ve got some exciting stuff brewing.

And if you’ve been following along, you know I’ve also been pouring my heart into my upcoming album. Seeing Tommy perform reminded me that great music doesn’t just happen — it’s the product of faith, persistence, and daily dedication.

“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.” — Colossians 3:23

That verse has been on repeat in my head lately.
It’s a reminder that every note I play, every lyric I write, is part of something bigger — an offering of gratitude for the gifts I’ve been given.

Of course, staying focused on what really matters isn’t always easy in a world full of distractions.
That’s why I’ve been using my Wise Phone 2, which keeps me present and off social media when I’m practicing or writing. If you’re looking for a way to cut the noise and reclaim your focus, I can’t recommend it enough.

That Tommy Emmanuel concert wasn’t just a night of great music — it was a spark.
It reminded me that skill fades without stewardship, and passion grows when we nurture it.

So here’s to playing with purpose, living with gratitude, and chasing excellence one note at a time.

See you at the next show. 🎸✨
